State of Me

I am tired and borderline sick (I have not been able to stop sneezing all day) and have fallen behind on just about everything, though am only one thread away from making reqs for July. I don't know how that happened.

Right now, I'm working on catching up with all the tags I've got -- all of which are threads I enjoy, which is making me less likely to want to drop them -- but I'm still really learning that if I don't keep on top of them and stay excited about what I'm writing, that I am more likely to lose interest. It's interesting that it's taken this many years of RPing for me to finally come back around and start figuring out a system that works with my real life the way it is now.

Nick Stokes

I finally kicked off Nick's fearplot in a post with Karen, and look forward to shaking him up with that over the next few months. He's always been a quiet pup, but he has such a life on the island -- he is happy, and in love, and useful -- that I can't imagine sending him back to Vegas. He is someone who I need the occasional canon refresher for, so I know that I need to get back into watching some CSI episodes to bring his voice back up. I know this, of course -- I've played him for how long? -- but I keep ignoring it. Sigh, self.

Coming up: More fearplot goodness. Except to see more Anxious Nick coming up in the future. I hope to give him his EP (FINALLY) at the beginning of the month, the Watching New CSI Episodes EP. Also, someday I will show him the episode where he shoots Justin Bieber's character and it will be awesome.

Severus Snape

Currently threading out the discovery of Past Island!Snape's relationship with Regulus. It is hilarious and neither Snape nor Sirius are happy campers about it. Other than that, he still doesn't have much going on -- he isn't a pup who lends himself to having friends very well, if you wouldn't have guessed.

In some fantasy land, I would love for him to have an ill-advised fling with someone someday. He would probably be very drunk and then would never talk about it. It's not something that I've laid the ground-work for -- it's hard to lay the ground-work for something like that with a very disagreeable character -- but he is someone who is very clearly still hung up on someone he loved but could never have, and I'd like to push him out of that eventually. I would also love for him to spill the whole story someday, if only so he could have someone tell him, dude, she just wasn't that into you.

Coming up: His one-year Island-versary is coming up in August, so he'll get an EP to brood and be a jerk over that.

Neal Caffrey

Well, Neal is Neal now, thanks to Peter's arrival. He's not happy about it, but in a way is also relieved that he doesn't have to hide anything anymore. I've got some great threads going on right now where he's admitting his lies to people, which are alternatively hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time. He's semi-homeless, since Jane asked him to leave, although Kate offered up a spare hut in New Atlantis, which he'll probably accept for now. He's not too keen on the dorms.

(The end game, of course, is that way off in the future, he winds up moving into a spare room in whatever hut Peter gets, because Peter will always want to keep an eye on him, and then slowly turns the place into a luxurious villa under Peter's nose. There will be a water fountain and undetectable forgeries of classic paintings and columns and everything, and some day, Peter will finally realize this and be like 'Neal, why is there a fountain shooting water in the foyer, and since when was there a foyer here in the first place?' and Neal will just shake his head and laugh.)

I realized while watching new White Collar episodes that I do have a chance to mirror Neal's season 4 arc on the island. It won't take the same form, obviously, but S4's overall arc is basically Neal Has Daddy Issues, as he tries to learn more about his father, which is something that eventually is going to start to bother Neal on the island, because he'll think he has no way of ever learning the truth. Of course, this is the island, and there is always a way of getting information, so someday he'll get the truth.

Coming up: Need to thread with post-amnesia Lipton, for more I'm-a-Big-Liar funtimes. Allie and I also talked about doing a homeplot with Neal and Kate, where they have to steal something for Great Justice, which would be hilarious and awesome and ~everything~. He's not a pup who I have to work to get out there and meet people, which is perfect. I was toying with the idea of Neal getting the forgery of the Degas that he does in canon as an item -- I want him to think it's the real one and panic, until he realizes that it's fake, and then panic some more -- but I am holding off on any items until S4 progresses, in case there's something there that I could use instead.

Maddie Brodatt

MADDIE. Oh, I love her, and I love her reunion with Julie, and it just makes me All Sorts of Happy. She is still settling in to the island, though has just generally decided to accept it no matter how little sense it makes. The place could be as absurd as anything and she would go with it if it meant that she got to be with Julie again. I didn't get to do quite as much with her as I wanted to this month, but will probably be throwing her into some gathering posts in August, especially the Saturday night dances. Wallflowers of the dances, look out, Maddie's coming for you.

Coming up: Nothing in particular, just getting to meet more people and getting used to the island and such. Probably not getting an EP this month, so look for her in gathering posts, or ping me if you want a thread with her.

The Future!

* George Mason from the Newsflesh trilogy is still my number one future choice, although at this point, I am already pretty sure that I need to let my roster sit for a little while to give Maddie time to settle in, and also, I will need to re-read the trilogy again. (Bonus, extra time to harass someone, anyone, into reading these books and giving me a Shaun.)

* Also still wanting to play Brandon from Shame. I feel like he'd fit in better at The City, because it won't be that foreign to him and thus he'd integrate better, but I have to sit down and really think about commuting to two games. Every time I try to do that, one of the games just falls apart for me, but I might be willing to try. Also putting him somewhere that he wouldn't integrate well would be interesting to see just where it pushes him, psychologically.

* And also, The Dark Knight Rises really REALLY gave me a lot of John Blake feels. He pings so many of my character-I-would-like-to-play buttons. Overcoming a complicated past, dealing with anger, being smarter than people give him credit for, blah blah blah. Also, JGL's face. I hesitate because even though he exists outside comic continuity, I feel like I should know more about the DCU/Batverse/anything more than I picked up from the Nolan trilogy. But. JGL's face. If I do app him, it will probably be over at The City, mostly because I want to play him now. #selfish #needy #hashtagsoutsideoftwitter

* There are others, but I really don't want to overextend myself with playing. All because I've hit my stride with a solid roster doesn't mean I can go off the rails and start playing a million characters in a million places. I'd still love to find another game that is more of a sandbox, a place to test out voices, but not one where you need to meet any monthly activity goals. I'd love to trot some other voices out for fun but without the responsibility of having to commit to playing them on a regular basis. (Does anyone have something like that? A headvoice sandbox for funtimes?)

SELFISH GRABBY HANDS.

Since John Blake is really a character that exists solely in Nolan canon, I really don't think you need to necessarily know a lot about DC comics, outside of that trilogy. The Batman he knows is different from the Batman of comics canon, the Gotham he knows is different, and he's a little different than the other characters that fill his role in canon (VAGUE FOR SPOILERS).

ROFL Plus, wouldn't it be hilarious fun to play him where I've got Patrick Bateman? XD

Also, I fucking love Brandon and would love to see him ANYWHERE. But selfishly, I think the City would be a good fit. >_>

Yeah, the more I think about it, the movie-verse is pretty much self contained. It's mostly my own obsessive need for info, which is my own problem. ;) Although it would be hilarious for him to meet people from the comic-verse and be like "... wait, what?"

And yes, him meeting Bateman would be basically the most hilarious thing ever; I would expect a lot of side-eye.

Brandon really would fit best with the City, which is pretty much what I'd been thinking ever since you all opened the game. Ugh his issues are just dying for me to poke at them.

Oh, I want so much from you. ;) I'd really like another thread with Neal and Marie (I assume she heard he's not really Victor, but probably didn't really care all that much, because why not take the chance to be somebody else if you show up in a whole new place?) because I liked them but then got very busy. And Kivrin thinks Maddie is pretty cool already. :)

As for Snape, he has recently sort of made a friend who is excellent at both ill-advised flings and harsh truths about failed love lives, so, ya know, whatever. *g*
